Proposal Prep and Commercialization Strategies for DOE SBIR/STTR Phase II
You’ve made it through the first hurdle -- getting your DOE Phase I funded. You’ve achieved your objectives and demonstrated feasibility. You’re ready to write and submit your Phase II proposal -- or are you? Join serial DOE awardee, Jerry Hollister, for this informative session which will explore the key considerations for a Phase II proposal with specific emphasis on commercialization. Jerry will provide the framework for a strong commercialization plan, discuss key activities that you can initiate while still working on your Phase I project, and review the overall attributes of a compelling, well-crafted proposal. Applicants must know their market size, characteristics, customers and competitors and how their innovation will address an unmet market need. This session deals with how to approach these topics and what information you’ll need to determine the financial projections and impact of your product. Light breakfast & lunch will be provided.
Speaker(s): Jerry Hollister, Principal Consultant, BBC Entrepreneurial Training & Consulting (BBCetc) Jerry joined BBCetc in 2017 with 30 years of leadership experience in government, higher education, non-profit and for-profit enterprises. After earning an engineering degree from the University of Michigan, he served as commissioned Naval Officer in the Civil Engineer Corps and a warranted Contracting Officer for the Dept. of Defense. Prior to joining BBCetc, Jerry was Chief Operating Officer for Michigan-based Niowave, a developer of superconducting electron accelerators, where he worked to build the successful start-up company from 2008-17. Jerry was instrumental in Niowave receiving $20 million in SBIR awards. Niowave was named the 2010 SBIR/STTR Small Business of the Year by the Dept. of Energy and, in 2016, was honored with the S.B.A.’s Tibbetts Award, which recognizes the best in SBIR achievement.
