SBIR Gateway

Upcoming SBIR Gateway Training Program  NIH Focus  October 23 &24, 2012 in Newark, DE

Delaware’s only resource dedicated to helping with the capital needs of researchers and the innovative technologies of entrepreneurs.

What is the Delaware SBIR Gateway?

The Delaware SBIR Gateway is a program of the Delaware Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC), a unit of the University of Delaware’s Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships (OEIP).  The SBIR Gateway program is a selective, in-depth program covering all aspects necessary for writing successful grants to the 11 participating federal agencies.  With federal funding from the SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) and STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) Programs, we can help your company secure vital capital at its earliest research and development stages.  Our innovative SBIR Gateway program will teach you how to pursue SBIR/STTR funds effectively so that you can rapidly achieve your technology commercialization milestones.

Why SBIR/STTR?

Through these two competitive programs, SBA ensures that 11 federal departments participate in the SBIR program. Five departments participate in the STTR program and every year, and the federal government awards $2 billion a year to small, high-tech businesses through these two competitive programs.  It is the government’s way of ensuring that the nation's small, high-tech, innovative businesses are a significant part of the federal government's research and development efforts.

 The process is easy!

A selective program, yes. But we’ve made the process as simple as 1, 2, 3……

       1.     Simply complete the Gateway application with the necessary supporting documentation.

2.     Upon submission of the application, an initial assessment with the Gateway Team will be scheduled to evaluate the application.  The assessment is to assist both the applicant and the Gateway Team to familiarize themselves with the company, the technology and the SBIR process.  Appropriate grant strategies based on the current stage of the company and its technology will also be discussed.  The application and the assessment will determine participation in Gateway proposal assistance program.

3.     Upon acceptance into the program, attend a mandatory two-day workshop specifically targeted to applicant’s planning on preparing an SBIR proposal within six to twelve months.  The workshop includes details on all aspects of proposal preparation including electronic submission and commercialization plans.  Class size is limited to 20 attendees.

4.     Following the workshops, participants will receive one-on-one consultations from SBIR experts that will guide them through the proposal process, including scientific and editorial review of their proposal and federal grant application. Consulting services are free of charge.  For a limited time we are waiving the normal $100.00 workshop fee. Apply now to take advantage of this opportunity.
